John Dunn is one of the most distinguished contemporary scholars who began to rejuvenate political theory by applying a historical perspective about five decades ago. His books include The Political Thought of John Locke (1969), Modern Revolutions (1972), Western Political Theory in the Face of the Future (1979), The Politics of Socialism (1984), The History of Political Theory and Other Essays (1996), The Cunning of Unreason (2001), Setting the People Free: The Story of Democracy (2005), Breaking Democracy's Spell (2014).
The lecture is one of the keynote addresses of the conference „Trust and Happiness in the Histrory of Political Thought: Third International Conference of the European Society for the History of Political Thought” (17-19 September 2014, http://history.ceu.hu/events ).
